    Help my friend.

I have this friend who wanted new glasses and reluctantly chose these hipster-looking frames and now he looks dorky and wants to go back to his old, reliable, late-2000's rimless look.

If I send back my lenses, I mean his lenses, even though they have a bevel, can a lab theoretically re-edge them and drill them?

He really, really looks like a dork in these, so he needs help. Thanks.

Where did he get frames that made him look that bad in the first place? Did he just ignore everyone that told him those weren't the frames for him, or did he get them online?

Theoretically yes. Of course a lot of that depends upon the material, the rx, and the measurements. I will say, I have done it before.

A "real" optician can easily do this as long as the existing lenses will accommodate the new shape. and geometry.

The answer is heavily dependent on the RX and lens design.

^^^^^This^^^^^ Throw everything else out the window, if the new shape doesn't "fit" within the existing lenses it's a no go.

Sight unseen probably a 10% chance. Biggest hurdle is sufficient thickness at the drill point. Compromised optics and excessive minimum thickness on plus powers are additional concerns. I would start over and make it perfect, which as we all know, is good enough.

Maybe he should post a picture of him in old vs new and let us decide?

    I second the emotion!

Besides......a rimless, drill-type might have a whopper of a bridge lens separation, making the IPD(chuckle) waaaay off!

NO WAY MY FRIEND WILL EVER AGREE TO PICTURES. He has a...fragile ego, if you can't tell from the first post.

I appreciate the fine responses, ladies and gentlemen.

My heart is really breaking for this guy! Not only is he bad at choosing frames, but it seems he pretty lousy at choosing his friends as well!

C'mon drk, throw some of that corporate wealth around and buy this guy a pair of glasses that look decent on him!

Many times, just add the drill holes. It works!
