Post on another thread got me to thinking---
Do any frame companies buy back their inventory if you want to drop the line?
I'd guess there's got to be some but frankly I'm not aware of any.
Are you?

Kenmark used to, maybe 20 years ago. I don't know nowadays though.
Most companies won't even let you exchange one line for another within the company. Even if it is the same rep!
I wish. Although I do have several companies that "buy" board space. So if you have one you want to kick out, they give you a percentage off the opening order. Example you want to trash 20 frames, they give you 40% off an order of 20 frames. Depends on what you're bringing in and taking out. We took out a cheap line and brought in a more expensive line, so 40% off a higher cost frame was great. It basically paid for the cheapies and the cheapies were donated. Great way to get rid of junk.
Maui Jim will buy them back. Maybach will as well; they can sell them to a dealer who is selling the line.
A lot of the reps won't let you trade stuff out because it doesn't count for their commission.
When I was green, I overbought a Tura line called "Chagall". It was beautiful, but didn't sell. I asked them if I could return it and they let me.
I've never forgotten Tura for that. (sniff)
This is about one of the wildest dream question I have seen on this Forum.
When I had my frame company we let optical retail customers return frames for credit for a period of 2-3 weeks after purchase or when they were defective by the manufacturer.
Frame reps are paid on commission at a different rate when it is a sale or a repeat order. So that makes it complicated for the wholesaler because of commissions paid, that have now to be recharged to a rep.
Restocking frames that have been on frame boards in stores have to be closely inspected and are often dirty with facial grease and covered with old makeup.
They have to go into a ultra sonic cleaner to get them usable again, then they got to be repackaged as most of the time the original factory packaging is missing.
One more thing is that many opticians and optometrists think that a wholesale purchased frame is like a loan and can be returned at any time and in any condition for full refund or exchange.
Frames today are not only an instrument to improve vision but also a fashion article that come and goes as per demand.
We aren't the ones that started the return policies, it was hungry frame companies that started it. I guess things go full circle, they use to do whatever it took to get their frame lines in our shops. They'd wine you and dine you, bring you donuts and lunch. They'd pass out t-shirts, give you movie tickets, take you out for cocktails, etc. Now a days they seem to pull every shenanigan they can to get rid of you, because you don't carry enough of their line to meet their standards. We owe these folks nothing.
