Acrylic Lenses

Does anyone have any information or experiance with using acrylic lenes? Pro and Cons, leagality etc?

Some lower priced sun lenses are made from acrylic. My experience was that it was a popular material for lenses on the cheap. But it used to shatter readily as I recall. Mind you, that was all plano / Non-Rx stuff.

I have a huge bag of them, they are what all the "demo" lenses in your frames are made out of. They are terrible and smell bad. Most Nideks have an acryilic setting for edging.

I gave some to a guy who makes animatronic robots. I don't even use them to cut demos anymore.

Acrylic lenses are quite commonly used for non ophthalmic applications. I don't think that they have the characteristics suited to eye glasses.
