    New look for our dispensary

Hello Folks, We've had a new MD take over the practice, and he says he wants a new look for the dispensary. He said he visions it as an "ice cream parlor". I thought I'd run that idea past you optiboarders, and see if you can help with any ideas. Thanks in advance.

I like the idea. I moved my practice into an outdoor mall 2 years ago and need to beef up our security as there are sticky fingers attached to some of the "shoppers" which we really never had before but now do big time. About half of our displays are lockable, but the other half are wide open, and we have a couple of thousand frames on view. I'm thinking the ice cream idea is similar to my jewelry store idea of having all the frames visible but not touchable without assistance, behind or under glass with lots of stools for people to sit and try on frames with assistance only.

It would create a fun albeit confusing way to display frames by "flavor".

    Plain frames: The Vannilla Collection

    Brown frames: The Chocolate collection

    Designer frames: The Pistachio collection

Very expensive frames: The Mint collection etc.

Hmmm... How about a combination Candy and Ice Cream shop. Eye candy- get it!!!

    Kids frames: Bubble gum collection

Again: adorable. "Eye Candy" would be a GREAT name for a themed eyewear shop.

Yep. That's a nice name. Someone is using it for a high end shop not far from here.

I knew someone years ago that did quite well combining a candy store and high end sunglasses. It's all about the location!

I like the idea of themes, ice cream and eyewear, I like the Fester's concept; mint collection and such. How about Rods and Cones.

Just keep in mind that it becomes hard to see true color when you have other colors in the room. I understand cute but the goal is to sell glasses and too much color can make it hard to see what things really look like.
We also replaced all the bulbs with jewelry quality LED; it is much different than the ones from Lowes or 1800bulbs.

Could you share the specs for those bulbs, please!

I agree with Craig, regarding the LED, it's the best thing we did during our face lift. We have three types of LED lighting. In the center of our ceiling we have overhead recessed 1x4's and two different spot lights that are rated 3200K, they illuminate a nice white light. And don't forget the lower operation costs.

Couldn't agree more. Too much color, and clutter can be misleading, and distracting.

Take a stroll down 5th avenue, and stop in at the flagship stores of the world's most successful retailers. Yes, some are over the top, and really get the blood pumping, but most of the classier places use distinct lines, angles, and simple designs for their displays. I used to take an Amish cabinet maker with me to the shows (many of you met him at VEE / VEW) for nothing else than to see how the big retailers do it. The first time he went into the Ralph Lauren store, he came out and said, "Those displays don't look any different than my mother's closet at home." And he was right.

Craig's right, the focus should be on the frames.

Hello Everyone, Well fortunately for me the ice cream parlor idea was just an idea. When it gets down to it, shoestring budget is more the direction for the displays. With the help of another Optiboarder, I was able to remount displays right over where the old ones used to be, using some acrylic rods and clips. We've moved out the optician's desk, and put in a couple bar stools at the counter for dispensing. By the way, if anyone has any extra clips laying around, please see my post in the market place forum, I could use some more.

    Thanks

The last clips I bought were from American Plastic Supply in Clearwater FL. They were like $2 each. The number on the packing slip is
    727 573-0636.

+1 We recently did the same thing...what a difference! Took our eyes a while to get used to them, but everything looks cleaner and the colors of the frames stand out more. HIGHLY recommend! Another plus...they are cooler. Not at hot in the dispensary.

    Amazing rhyme. I loved it.
