Who will win the EHR ECP race???

Rather than hi jack an Eyefinity thread here's a new one that may heat up as October 1 gets closer...

Our Doc's bought ActivEHR when it was ODPro. Supposedly ODPro was going to be VSP's main program but for whatever reason the marriage never happened. We felt like a small practice alpha test for this about 8 or 10 years ago. It was sold with the promise that we could fill in a screen and seamlessly send it to VSP or another lab while working across the medical community spectrum. All these years on we're still having to send VSP orders separately through Eyefinity.

I'm told ActivEHR is now owned by Ocuco who will be making substantial updates after the October 1 code changes which I'm sure will have Optiboard in overdrive with frustrated ECP's.

Does anyone else know if this is true or has more details? It seems to me there's a race on right now to be the dominating platform for ECP's. Who else is in the race and what are their odds???

I have no specific recommendations but would like to inject some comments into this discussion. Having been developing software for the eye care business, first as a hobbyist (Turbo Pascal v1.0) and later as a business starting back in 1986 I learned that the most difficult aspect of the development process was to match the product to the end users existing business model. Today, this difficulty is magnified by the existence of third party requirements (insurance companies) and a fourth party (Government Regulations.) So, in addition to making Dr Demento and his staff happy campers we have to jump through the ever changing insurance requirements (how's the implementation of the ICD_10 going for ya?) not to mention the as yet fully known and constantly changing ramifications of the ACA.

Just remember, you are dealing with your enterprises vital records. Errors in data input, storage, transmission and processing can have legal and economic impact on your business. As our old friend Elmer Fudd used to say "Be vewwy vewwy careful!"

Of course the biggest challenge now is that we need to be more customizable. Each end user's requirement differ in a very big way. And everyone want to use EHR in their own way. And that is what has actually driven us to build our EHR software, blueEHR, which is completely customizable and is malleable and supports complete API integration. This is something that no other EHR software in the industry provides as of now. For more information about the blueEHR software, please follow us at www.blueehr.com
