Kids Vision for Life Central Texas - Austin
Optician/Program Lead


Kids Vision for Life Central Texas (KVFL CTX) represents a joint effort of the Austin Community Foundation and Essilor Vision Foundation to remove barriers that prevent low-income children from receiving quality vision care by providing comprehensive services at no cost to parents. By deploying a mobile vision clinic throughout the Austin area, KVFL CTX provides vision screenings, eye exams and high-quality glasses to students in Central Texas school districts.


Responsibilities


Reporting to the EVF Area Program Manager, the Optician/Program Lead is responsible for execution of EVF’s Kids Vision for Life Central Texas activities in Greater Austin. These include vision screenings and clinics in conjunction with other staff, contractors, school district personnel or other agencies and organizations as needed. Responsible for ensuring compliance with the program protocols, high standards in the delivery of vision services and in maximizing the resources allocated while maintaining a professional and kid friendly environment.


Planning
• Complete pre-planning activities to include coordination with school district personnel, school nurses, confirmation of student eligibility, screening and exam schedules and parental approvals/student assent.
• In advance of onsite dates, coordination of Optometrist(s), contractors, volunteers, school personnel other personnel from other venues, consistent with projected student volume and schedule.
• Ensure necessary screening tools are available and utilized according to the local state screening requirements and consistent with the screening policies of KVFL CTX.
• Oversee preparation of frame and lens inventory for vision clinics.
• Oversee and execute follow up dispensing schedules as related to delivery and fitting of finished glasses.


Execution
• Ensure processes and established protocols are followed during the execution of all clinical activities.
• Ensure ongoing communication with Optometrist regarding process, schedules and pre-authorizations including background investigations and W9 paperwork.
• Will perform screenings and/or processing of prescriptions, as required during the clinics.
• As the clinical lead, ensure that the staff, contractors, optometrists and volunteers follow the established protocols and best practices.
• Ensure that the Ophthalmic referral process is utilized effectively.
• Coordinate payment processing for contractors, doctors, etc.


Reporting
• Capture data necessary from screenings and clinics, as related to reports EVF compiles in tracking services delivered as well as all information for clinical studies/research. Must be completed on time.
• Completes monthly reports as required.


Mobile Clinic
• Is responsible for oversight of the mobile clinic, its use and ensuring it’s always properly stocked. (Mobile Clinic is stocked with consumables e.g. lens, exam forms, lens cloths)
• Report any maintenance or equipment issues immediately to the EVF Operations.


Research Study
• Responsible for collecting the data necessary for the research study and coordinating transfer of that to necessary parties.
• Will be IRB trained and certified.

Qualifications


We are seeking a highly independent and self-initiated individual with the following attributes:


• Exceptional organization skills including demonstrated abilities in Microsoft Office.
• Both verbal and written communication skills which lead to clear expectations in coordinating and collaborating across peers, volunteers and external resources.
• Ability and willingness to work with elementary age school children.
• Ability to be punctual every day with limited absences.
• Patience and persistence to ensure adherence to standards and ability to take corrective action as needed.
• Optometric or Ophthalmic clinical practice experience.
• ABO certification required.
• BS or equivalent work experience.
• Willingness to drive mobile clinic if needed.
• Must pass background check required by schools and Kids Vision for Life Central Texas.
• Spanish speaking preferred.
