If a patient has you fill an Rx from 2015 and then states that they don't like the lenses and want you to change the lens to their older Rx which is dated 2014, can we do that? Or does the 2015 Rx trump the 2014 Rx?

I would first ask them why they haven't taken this up with their doctor. Most doctors would happily please a patient, within reason.
spot on! call the doc

I'm sorry I didn't finish my post before I posted. Yes, she was referred back to the doctor and she refused so the 2014 Rx was filled. In my last office this was a no-no, but I'm not sure what the actual law is or what is ethical.

Who's in charge of your new location? If it were my place under these conditions and the rx is similar I'd fill it and not lose any sleep over it. I'd also make a note on the record that the patient is sensitive to rx changes. One of my doc's is fond of saying; "There's the real world and the chair world". Sometimes what's refracted in the chair is not what the patient can wear. It's why refraction is as much art and experience as hard and fast rule.
Check your state Optometry laws, but in most states an eye glass Rx expiration is not law, nor enforceable. ( Only so much as the office that wrote it will refuse to release it.) Also, most all states allow Rx duplication no matter how old the glasses are.
I agree with filling RX's and not losing sleep, but why make an enemy of the other doc? Its worth a conversation, then I would fill it if I felt it was worth it.
This being said from a tallguy who just filled a trifocal via RX duplication and seg estimation in a new frame for a poor old woman with dementia who couldn't make it to the shop. So I definitely see it both ways.
Nonsense. YOU ARE THE 'GC' for the glasses. They PAID you! If you need the Doc, then you are not the GC, let the Doc pay.

I could care less and would be happy to change them out. We charge 50% for the new lenses and will just trial frame her to ensure it will work as expected.
If the lenses are built correctly and they cannot see as well as before something is wrong.
Neutralize old glasses and fill, no need to check expiration or laws.
