Free copy of $99 app -- feedback requested!

    Hi OptiBoard,

I built an app for vision testing (it's built for professionals, not consumers), Eye Chart Professional.

I'm trying to improve the app.

I'd love to get feedback from just a few volunteers from the OptiBoard community. As a thank you, I can give you a free copy of the $99 version of the app.

Please let me know if you're interested.

    Cheers.

PS - Make sure to try out the remote control, too!

How are you going to weed out consumers from actual optical professionals?

Great question. We do a few things to weed out professional / home users - 1) we ask users up front whether they are home or professional users, so we know who is using it. 2) If you play around with the app, you'll see that there are no directions, etc. to self test or diagnose vision. It's essentially a handy set of charts + a remote control to test vision, and you already need to know how to use these tools. This separates it from a number of vision testing apps on the app store that give instructions to the user and try to tell them what their vision is.

Hi Braheem, that is correct. We stopped supporting the old app back in 2013 but we recently formed a new team to build out more functionality and support it again. We've rebuilt the app from the ground up.

Glad you enjoyed using it and we'd love to get your feedback. I'll direct message you a code to get the app for free.

You ask a question. That's it? No verification? No checking the internet to see if there is, in fact, an actual OD/MD using the app? Seriously???

MikeAurelius, perhaps we should do more verification -- but can you help me understand why this would be necessary?

Mike, the app is a snellen chart. There is no consumer refractions going on.

This is my setup, I really like the new room size features.

Is there a way to change the background setting to be a solid black or white? Black would work better in my case.
Is it possible to autohide all the writing except the snellen when not being used, I just does not look as professional seeing a "snellen chart" or settings cog in the corner when examining patients.

Thirdly :) can you add a red/green split screen?

Braheem, thanks for the feedback and the pictures -- great to see the iPad mounted in your setup.

    1) Background setting -- great feedback, we'd thought about it but de-prioritized that feature. We could add a feature that adds a white or black border around the "wood" texture around the chart, and it could also cover all the buttons and labels.

    2) Red / Green -- we have included a Red / Green split for Sloan Optotypes and Tumbling E. If you tap on "More Charts" and scroll down, you will see those two charts. Let me know if either of those charts meets your requirements or if you'd prefer something else.

Have you had a chance to try the charts out in landscape? Is portrait or landscape a more preferable operating mode?

Black border, instead of wood would be perfect.

I will play with the "more charts"

I Didn't try landscape, As you see I built the wall for your app. it's kinda tough to rework it.

Hi iD, at the moment, it is only going to be available on iOS, as the iPad has a standardized screen size, color, and pixel density. We'd love to extend it to Android eventually.

I would love to try this app! I'll be happy to provide a detailed review on it's ease of use and functionality...I might even have a few more feature suggestions too. Thanks in advance!

I would love to help evaluate and will use in a few ways as we are a luxury retail that has an OD available a few days per week but we get mostly outside RX's. If it is from any MD office we trial frame to make sure it is close to accurate.

Our average client is 65 and retired who now does their reading on an iPad anyway, so this is the future as far as I see it. Why hand them a reading card that is 20 years old when we can work with a device they actually use. The usage of lenses has changed big-time in the past few years and the intermediate is now the most important part of the near zones.
