    Darryl :(

I was just looking through and old thread and found a little light hearted banter back and forth between me and Darryl. It made me sad.

I didn't know him personally, but we were facebook friends, like so many of were. I still remember the first time I saw a picture of him.

Now I figured this guy had to have been an older slightly overweight dude with graying hair, because in my mind, well, anyone as smart as him HAD to have been older, right?

Wrong. Hello opti-crush! So young and cute!

Anyway, not trying to bring anyone down, but just wanted to share. I had .0000001% of contact with the man that many of you have, so I figure if I still miss the guy, so many more of you must also.

I hope you are having a great day, using some bit of knowledge picked up by him.

I am sure they still have a fund to help raise money for his kids. I went to the event in Vegas last year and did contribute to the fund, but it is a great way to let his kids know what their dad meant to others. He was a special guy and absolutely brilliant!
Any amount tells them you care.

I was introduced to him through one of my optical mentors, who was friends with him from several years back. We've never actually discussed Daryl because I know it'd be too hard for him. It's an unspoken blind spot between us (no pun intended). I actually made his acquaintance very briefly before he passed away so I didn't have the benefit of knowing him as well as I'd have liked. He helped to answer some very picky questions I had regarding the effects of a blue tint interacting with HEV. I'm sorry I didn't get to enjoy more of the benefit of his knowledge or his company.

Appreciated him (and his amazing knowledge).
    Miss him.

Darryl was a true optical genius who also happened to be a very nice guy. The industry lost one of its great ones.

Those who know Darryl also know about the effort he put into OptiCampus to make it a free resource for everyone and in his honor I have continued to run OptiCampus on my servers and will do so as long as I am running OptiBoard.

Sadly however, in spite of my efforts I have not been able to generate any interest in ensuring Darryl's legacy and hard work benefits his family. I have written many leaders in the industry, but no one has agreed to take over the site in his honor and to reward his family for his hard work and generosity. My faith in this industry has diminished.

I didn't know you were doing that, Steve. Thank you, sir.

    We use it virtually daily.

    I'll contribute a little.

How about a Platinum level of $15 a month to support Steve and Opticampus? Any extra benefits the family.

I don't want anything. I was hoping that at least one of the leaders on this industry would offer to purchase the site from the family and pledge to maintain it in Darryl's honor. As I said, the responses to my emails on this regard have been very disappointing. I believe that Darryl and his family deserve better than that.

Darryl was the man. His posts, articles and diagrams taught me so much. I literally use opticampus everyday. I am not a rich man but I would gladly contribute an amount.
