Lack of response usually means you are on your own.

IMO far better to stick with a well-known brand name that you can get service and parts for. As an example, I still have a functional WECO 440 from 1989 that I can buy parts from the manufacturer and various other supplier, and still have several companies that service those machines.

Chinese edgers work well for those simple Rx lens but not ash tray blanks! Here in China, most optical store buy essilor, Hoya and Nikon edgers

MrO, like you, I always ask my peers for advice before making a large purchase. Regardless of where the machine is made, an edger is too large of an investment to take a chance on an unknown.

    Good luck!

I agree with you Mr Johns.

But Buying known brand of edger is cost effective for someone is having more than 1 Branch, also the owner prefers if the branch have it's Own lab instead of having 1 lab for all Branches.

    I agree with you 100%.

    Thank you for replaying.

with semi-finished Progressives in High Index and premium ARs topping $300+ (you cost), how many lenses are you willing to eat?

by the best edger you can. It will save you a lot of money over the next 10 years.

    I use a patterned Chinese edger,$1200 shipped-for '1st division' lens edging
my logic is less wear-and-tear on the 'good' one
the one i bought is extremely quirky. once you self teach yourself how to calibrate and use it(instructions are also in Chinese)
you can use it to do the easy stuff..mechanical abilities are a MUST, and once you learn the quirks, bevel placement ect, it is acceptable
remember tech support is non existent so it is a $1200 crap shoot. for rimless logo style it is fabulous believe it or not
and minus lenses are edged much much better than plus...go figure

That's a tough way to run a lab, unless your staff is fluent in Mandarin!

    That about sums it up!

I have a son that lives in Switzerland and sells machinery parts all over Europe to machinery manufacturers of all types, all those parts are now manufactured in China.

Maybe your fancy edgers are also made with Chinese parts.

I think that the chance of many Chinese edger reviews popping up on Optiboard are pretty thin. I just don't think it's that kind of crowd. (I'm as interested in hearing them as you)
