just out of curiosity, what's base salary for a sales rep your state? What else is included besides base salary + commission for sales rep?
Thanks

Depends almost totally on the rep, their reputation, the line they carry and their territory. I know reps that don't earn their gas bill, I know reps that make a killing off phone re-orders, and hardly ever call on accounts and play golf all day.
true....nowadays there isn't any commission based oriented....
From the reps I know there isn't a "base" at all. 1099 employees, commission only, you cover your own expenses. Its not a career for the faint of heart. IMO they should unionize, or at the very least create an Association to be able to get group rates on health insurance. I have seen that industry destroy families believe it or not.
Although I am sure there are some companies that have salaraies/bene's
All the reps I know are commission only, no base pay. Some of them are very successful with their lines, others had to pick up a second job for the additional income and/or benefits
Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity
When I had my frame company we paid a commission to sales reps of 20% (on full price sales) for direct sales on the road and 10% on repeat orders.
At that time that was about standard for the industry as there was no consignments given.
I remember when sales reps would make a base of $24k-100k plus commission. all of this would be negotiated based on reputation and sales credentials. Now days, most reps are either on straight commission(1099), or a base with a really high sales goal before they start earning commission.
this isn't the optical industry, but the sales industry as a whole.
kind of puts the impact of the internet into perspective for us in the optical industry.
