I need advice with the shamir progressives as I intend working with a free form lab making lenses designed with the Shamir software. Any recommendations, experiences and comparison with the varilux will be appreciated. Thx.

Which Shamir designs do you want compared to which Varilux designs?
There are rules. Knowing those are easy. There are exceptions to the rules. Knowing those are easy. Knowing when to use them is slightly less easy. There are exceptions to the exceptions. Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.
Shamir in general offers great distance width in almost all their lenses, uses generally softer designs, but that comes at the cost of reduced reading and intermediate. Their excellence is in handing cylinder and compensating of the unwanted cylinder induced by all corridors. It leads to some wacky looking RXs but it works well... for most people. Some people get used to their distortion just they way it was. Shamir is a love or hate it line, best for distance needs, with most advanced cylinder tech on the market today.
Essilor is in contrast more of a near emphasized line, the Comforts success was due to its ability to keep the Add wide in every power so it competed well with the ST-28. Probably the first progressive to do so well. The distance however will shrink with each increase in Add Power, strange to be sure but it worked at the time. The Physio line is more of a Balanced line, wider distance than the Comfort but narrower near. As the Add power increases however the corridor narrows a bit and the lens get harder a bit. Essilor doesn't really have a good edge to edge distance option in their portfolio right now, their biggest weakness is how close their lenses are in design to each other.
