Help with tiny scratches from possible tint error ...

    Hey all!

Has anyone else experienced tiny scratches on the surface of new lenses that came from your laboratory? It's not just a couple of scratches but THOUSANDS of them that cover the entire surface that can only be seen when you tilt the lens laterally and expose it in certain light. I have experienced this a few times, and they seem to always be on TINTED or POLARIZED lenses.

Basically-- Is there a technical name for this error? And if so, how does it happen?

    Thanks guys!

I usually experience it with non-ar sun lenses. And there are thousands of tiny scratches that resemble cross-hatching (Art technique).

Front or back or both? If back surface, then they may be from bad surfacing or polishing. Also it may be that these tiny scratches are just more noticeable on tinted lenses.

It's inside the lenses. I can see it on most if not all polarized. Something to do with the lamination and the polarized wafer. Noting you can do. So difficult to see, you have to get the light just right.

Do you mean there's nothing you can do except remake it completely?

    OH! I get it!

You mean that is the actual polarized filter/wafer that I am seeing. So I am possibly mistaking it for an error when it's the actual polarization filter?

They're polishing marks, Your lab is not polishing the lenses long enough or thinner equipment is not calibrated or using old polish. You can ask the lab to backside coat the lenses to mask the defects.

What I've seen, yes. Always been there.
