What's a trunk show? Is it like in Dumbo when his mum and the others make that pyramid? Because I don't think we have room for that, and they might poo on the new carpet.

A trunk show is a private showing done by different frame companies of your choice by invitation or advertising.
Oh right. No, I'm afraid.

I love trunk shows. Sit back, let the reps do the work and count the cash at the end of the day.

Igsldy,
Trunk shows are a great way to bubble up some business.
BUT...........
Remember that the effects of a trunk show should be recognized long after the day is over. Therefore, it may be more practical to use the show as a PR tool rather than a "Dash for cash" day. Otherwise you may only be able to take care of 10% of the people walking through your door as the other 90% go unrecognized and perhaps even frustrated.
There are also some favorable strategies to make it a success.
Stay away from scheduling it around major holidays, or summer vacations because many people will find it desirable but inconvienent to attend.
Depending on your part of the country, you must also consider the possibility of incliment weather conditions. If this is applicable to you, Spring and Fall are usually the best times.
If you have too many trunk shows it will not be so special and folks won't take the event as seriously. Try to make it an annual or semi annual event rather than monthly or bi monthly.
Use the opportunity to develop a mailing list by offering a raffle. Ie. eyewear, sunwear, accessories, etc.
Had some success with trunk shows, and a few abysmal failures. Need to be promoted well. If you advertise or invite the "right" people you can do well. Serving a little booze doesn't hurt any.
