Quebec supreme court says online sales ok

The Superior Court of Quebec has decided that the sale of contact & eyeglasses can not be stopped in Quebec. CC and its Quebec partner will be allowed to ship contact lense and Rx eyeglasses into Quebec.

As a friend of mine once said: "It's Canada, mate. What else do you expect?"

yup. this is a big loss and the quebec college of optometrists just blew a load of cash fighting this thing. They got stuck with court costs too. I suppose they can appeal, but it doesn't look good.

What differentiates this with any online store selling eyeglasses into licensed states like NY and FL?

Why are we beating up on Canadians?

Maybe this is the difference (maybe it's not...you tell me):

NY, etc. "We see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" <---lazy
Canada: "What can you do?" <---impotent

    Laziness is a choice.
    Impotence is a medical disorder.

I suggest we work on the choice and save the blue pills for us.

Quebec: "Do nothing is an order" (this is Canadian Head Office of Essilor)

Has anybody noticed, but I have seen no official comment from The Order of Optometry or The order of Opticians. I have heard alot of grumbling from optometrists about the amount of money spent, by the order , on a pretty much no win case.

It was kind of like the Que gouverment asking Ontgouverment to charge the PST tax on all products bought online in Ont and shipped to Que ( and then give it back to Que. . Not likely.

IMO Things are no different than here in the states. When the question of restricting online sales of glasses or contacts has come up, the states will say that it is a FTC (Federal Trade Commission) issue. When asking at the federal level, the FTC says that it is a state issue. There is not any group that has the stones, money or desire to truly address the issue. ECPs dislike online retailers in principle, but it has not made us uncomfortable enough to really do anything about it. on the positive side, having the online retailers gives us an outlet to be able to vent our frustrations, if they were to go away we may revert to kicking our dogs or old ladies
