Thread: TEMPLE COVERS

    HI,
Yesterday this elderly man came in and handed his zyl frames to me and asked me to replace his temple covers for him. I thought I could, but when I heated the old ones and pulled them off, the ones we had didn't fit. Now, I told him we had ones that fit and now I have a problem. The temples have a wide spatula end and I can't slide the ones we have over the zyle temples with the wide ends.
Please, where can I get temple covers like this? HELP

    Christine,

You have a few choices to fall back on.
Since you indicated you don't have the appropriate size you can make retrofit covers by utilizing at least two alternatives until you get the real mccoy.

    1. Go to a local hobby store and ask for clear flexable fuel tubing. This is used to make the fuel connection between the engine and fuel tank and comes in various size diameters. The silicone type is best since it stretches and conforms best to the inside shape.

    2. Another alternative is to go to Sears and purchase a small package of their heat shrink tubing. Put this over the temples and then pass it through your hot beads a few times and it will tighten up over the temple.

    Hope I've helped
    Kevin

    Thanks Kevin,
    Also,
Can I send the glasses out to the lab to do this for me?

    Confused

Christine: I am sure you are a sweet young lady, but wanting to "send it out to the lab" for something this simple sounds like one of those women who want to be equal until the trash needs taken out or a light bulb needs changed. Measure the diameter of the temple, measure the length you want the temple cover to be and read your hilco catalogue.

You can also find heat shrink tubint in the Hilco catalogue, most hardware stores Auto parts houses and Radio Shack.

    Hi Chip,

    Thanks for being so sweet.
Well I didn't know it would be such a problem. I thought labs do things we can't do, and tubing doesn't sound like an opticians job, it sounds like a plumber's job. I don't want to be equal. I like being pampered by men.

    Thumbs up

Call Hilco. They have replacement temple covers. Or, you can send it to them and they will do the job.

They make different sizes, I have all three. also when you get the right size you may need to run some water on them so they go on better. If you need a pair let me know.
