My regular lab tech is off for the week and the jobs have piled up....

I edged a polarized cr39 progressive into a metal aviator frame and the edge thickness on the top and bottom was a bit over 4.5 mm (this was a plus job). I mounted the lenses and there was too much of an untinted clear edge showing - like an open window. Not ideal for a dark sunglass.

So I pulled out my edge tinting pen and colored in the edges with the black color. The frame is black metal and the job looks nice now.

I did some dilated fundus exams today, some cycloplegia, some refraction, some foreign body removal and some good ole fashion lab work. I feel so lucky to get to do all this and I love our trade. I love our ME900 edger and all the incredible equipment that is available on the market today. We get to deliver awesome service and products and the days just fly by.

The lab guys really work hard, it requires full concentration, it is easy to make costly mistakes. I only do some fill in stuff when needed. This is a relatively thankless part of the job and to all you lab jockeys out there slogging it out day in and out, my hat's off to you.

My late father, the most famous optometrist on our block back in his day, would remind us to always work over the tray - so when you drop a bloody eyewire screw you can find it.

The key to being 'a real mensch' is nothing less than character, rectitude, dignity, a sense of what is right, responsible and decorous.The term is used as a high compliment, expressing the rarity and value of that individual's qualities.

I miss getting to do labwork; hope I can steer myself towards some now and then in the future. (But most of my screws always bounced out of the tray anyway.) : P

Lab techs are actually a dime-a-dozen, but GOOD lab techs are hard to find. The problem is that the difference isn't very often noticed with run of the mill jobs.

That open window was probably were it was surfaced thru the film. Some portion of the lens had to be thinner than +/-2.0mm. as the film is about 1.5mm from the front...depending on the vendor.

You are probably 100% correct. I'm just a 3rd rate pinch hitter in the lab. A real good, experienced tech would not have needed to resort to a paint pen!
