Nice job Barry! I'm sure others will ask, 1.74 drill mount?? Looks fantastic!
Wow! What an amazing job

Nice! Would the hinge have closed without the facet?
very cool! nice work!
Very nice, your work really inspires.
I think from the overhead pic you can see the savings. Don't forget: The front facet was inspired by the style of the OTC acrylic reader. I immediately recognized that a companion rear facet would be a great match, and further reduce the profile thickness. The style of this Elements Silhouette endpiece also helps to distract the observer's eye from the profile thickness.
Disclosure: I made a CR39 sample for her, from some old/slightly-yellowed -4.00s to simulate the finished thickness and appearance. When she tried them one, she exclaimed: "Perfect! I luv them!"

Ok first let me say wow. Its beautiful like jewelry. Second, I've always been facet-nated (see what I did there?) by the craft of faceting and polishing a beautiful edge like that. I have kind of a dumb question, well, several kind of dumb questions (try to forgive my ignorance). When you facet a lens wouldn't that increase the amount of reflection the person will see in the periphery in the front and to a lesser extent the back of the lens? (as seen in the image) Also, wouldn't that negate the effectiveness of an anti reflective coating? It seems the edge of the lens was not polished. If you dont polish the edge of a lens, but only the facet would that balance the reflections you might get from the facet if any?
it's polished..just not a high Polish. only Poly and Trivex come out with a high polish on my ME. High Index is polished, just less so...which is the way I like it. Anytime you polish, you increase the possibility of annoying reflections. facets and narrow shapes with straight contours, like this one, compound the problem. But the choice is often the client's and cosmetic preferences must be considered.

Nice Work Barry!
I would double check the axis calibration on your 1200. It may be the drill only.
A perfect finish, as we learned to do it in the old days. And what is most stunning is that it is made in house.
Very nice job, well done and your client even had a mock up made in CR39. That is personalized one-on-one service at its best.
As far the minor drill axis shift - do you edge in soft mode? I notice on my ME900 that some drill jobs, especially on trivex, definitely hold the drill axis better when edged in soft/gentle mode.
nice job.with today's technology it's nice to see when somebody does the job right rather than just doing the job.and the extra step or 2 makes a customer for life
Please wake me when something new and exciting comes along.
This dinosaur was doing that stuff without the aid of fancy machines 30 years ago.
And without the horns bells and whistles of social media.
Barry Santini so far is the only one on OB, that publishes with pictures the quality and perfect jobs he produces in his own optical business.
Many of us older ones learned to do near perfect jobs on a ceramic hand edger, in glass with holes drilled with the old diamond drill and edges polished on a felt wheel 50 years ago.
I have high regards for Barry to show the optical world that in this modern crazy times he still goes out and shows that there are still some original opticians around that care and know all about it.
I have to say... I have always HATED faceted lenses. Barry... you may have changed my mind. Looks great!
OK so I'm hijacking the thread a little (it is post 23 after all).
Remember the acrylic Neostyles that came in BIG styles with facets and inlaid painting accents?
