    -25.00 sv--best lens choice??

the doctor for whom I work has asked me if I thought a blended lenticular lens would be best for a 19 year old young man with Downsyndrome. His rx is OD: - 25.00 -.50 X ** and OS; - 25.00 sphere. Evidently, someone made glasses for him and he is having difficulty. Besides the obvious (recheck PD, base curves, vertex distance and etc) is there a different type of lens besides the blended lenticular for this young man? I haven't see it a blended lenticular or a myodisc for years.

Its questions like these that make me miss Dragonlensman. He did an awesome job on Myodiscs. They still can be made, just much more expensive and from fewer locations than in the past. I am not sure if Jacqui still has lab access or not, but she also has skill in this area.

http://www.optiboard.com/forums/show...hlight=myodisk is the thread where Dragon showed off some of his work...

1.67/1.74 biconcave would probably yeild the best results.

not a fan of myodiscs, unless edge thickness is the only thing that matters to the patient

Many of the new digital generators should be primed to do this very sort of work, and in materials far better than CR-39 for thickness etc. Depending on the lab you ask, they will have upper limits that they're capable of running or feel safe running as the case may be. Have you called anyone to talk to their top techs?

I suggest calling Mike Walach at Quest Optical Lab.

Ask him what he would suggests! He is an EXPERT in this type of rx! His lab is the lab that regular labs use when they get the tough jobs in!

Note the small eye size and wide DBL. Nice work!

Here's an other example, the right is -25 D.

Here's another one for Quest. They also sell the Optirule, which I have used as a book marker for my, Systems for Ophthalmic Dispensing.
