    Titanium

I remember having some good information a few years back from Rodenstock on the different types of titanium(s) used in the manufacture of frames. It's long gone. We sell higher end titanium frames but I am lacking the proper information that would really help to distinguish the reason that a titanium frame we sell for XXX is different than a titanium frame from a big box store for X. Other than the fact that you can feel the difference. Does anyone have a link or some essential info about purity, composition, etc...? Appreciated.

I know beta titanium is the purest stable composition of titanium in frames. Or at least thats what Charmant tells me.

EDIT: I mean they say their Beta titanium is the purest of the ones used in frames.

I can kind of understand the appeal of beta ti. It's always manufactured so thin though. A lot of our selection has frame fronts that range from 2-4mm in thickness. The temples are a lot thinner though and more flexible. I know Blackfin pairs solid titanium fronts with beta Ti temples that are ridiculously cool.

Just about everything that you could ask about titanium alloys will be found here:

If you want to know which alloy is used in a specific frame just ask the manufacturer. Lots of luck with that one.

The tangent is relevant since memory metal is a titanium/nickel mix. If my memory serves me correct I believe Jerry Huang posted about the bridge piece on a memory metal frame like a Flexon is actually held in by kinks or crimps on that part of the nasal that holds the bridge. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
