    Contact Lens experts....

    Hi all,
I have a pt that wants a yearly vial lens. She was put into a Cooper Hydrosoft Thin. She felt they dried out too quickly. I am looking for suggestions for other lenses to try that will retain their moisture longer. I am looking through Ty quart to see but thought I'd ask those of you with experience in this area. We rarely prescribe vial lenses anymore. She is a SPH fit, no toricity.
    Thanks
    P

Sorry, but that mode is gone and manufacturers are doing the passive aggressive approach by letting quality of the few vial products go down so they rip earlier. Much earlier.

also liability issues as people tend to overwear then blame the manufacturer.

I would not prescribe a vialed lens under any circumstance. There's just no advantage.

If a patient insists, I take that as a sign of goofiness and will not want to work with them.

The best lenses for dryness is the Dailies Total 1, hands down, but it's pricey pricey.

Second to that would be plasma-treated silicone, and that means Air Optix Aqua.

But I take your post as 1. she wants vialed, 2. this is a dry vialed lens.

Just tell her to try Air Optix Aqua monthly replacement and she'll thank you.

I agree with the two previous posters. the best Opticians are the ones that know when to say NO! I cant think of any valid reason to put a patient in a spherical vial lens.

Sometimes the problem is that we think the patient should prescribe what is best for them. Discuss it well with them, and if they don't get it, divorce them. All of the bailed lenses will dry out more quickly.

Since shes asking for a vial lens, if you give her a monthly lens you know good and well she is going to wear it like a vial lens. So just as well give her a effective cleaning system. Multi-purpose solutions like Pure Moist ect....are OK but don't cut it though. They are good to have to use as a rinse though. My favorite is Clear Care, a peroxide system. The kits I have in my office are still the 8 hour kits (over night) but I understand that they have been able to cut them down to 4 hours.
