I received an AR coating for the first time after I started working in the optical field. I noticed that I was seeing double of street signs, and any thing else that was reflective, but I never saw it with my old pair of non-AR coated lenses. My eye dr said that this was an allergic reaction to the AR, and that I should not wear them at night. I dont know if this helps or not, just throwing out my own experiance.

I think that there must be a misunderstanding here....I would query your eye doctor about this statement. It is more likely that the new glasses are built much differently than the older non AR ones. It is likely that they are a higher index of refraction, perhaps a different base curve/prescription and very likely with a minimum quality AR.
