    Help a foreign colleague

Hi folks, I'm an optician in Brazil and recently the labs here started offering the some "new" lenses, the Younger Optics's "Image" and the Kodak's "Easy" and "Precise". Although they are new here I guess they have being sold in North America for quite a while.

All of them are sold about half the price of a Comfort and usually the rep will say they are half as good, but we all know this is not true.

My question is, what do you think about those lenses? How do you think they compare to the Comfort, Sola One and other lenses?

thanks for your help and please excuse any misspelled words or wrong expressions

    I would start with this:

    Progressive addition lenses—measurements and ratings
    Jim Sheedy, O.D., Ph.D.*, Raymond F. Hardy, B.S., and John R. Hayes, Ph.D.

I've no experience of the Image lens, but I've seen a few patients wearing the Easy and the Precise (this is in the UK, but I assume the product is the same). From what I've seen performance-wise, they are basic, and pretty good for long distance. Further down, the Comfort will be superior, but probably not twice-the-price-as-good.

Don't forget though, that the Comfort is vastly overpriced for the quality it offers - or at least it is in the UK!

To be honest, I would do what I always do when offered a new varifocal to try. Order one, and see what you think. Doesn't have to be for a patient. Any rep who is confident in their product will happily give you a trial - if you can get the lens in your hand, you can see what you think of them!

I have the Image in my sunglasses and it's fine. It has a good distance area. It is not an expensive progressive here.

thanks for your feedback, the paper sharpstick777 posted was really interesting, it is a shame I couldn't find any similar work with the lenses we get here.

standarduck, I guess I'll end up doing as you suggested, my grandma said she needed new sunglasses and I know she is using a Comfort.

Happylady, thanks for your compliment and experience, I haven't written anything in English in a while, auto correct really helped me though.

Image is a great distance oriented progressive lens. Low presbyopes, professional drivers, sports enthusiasts, anything distance oriented is going to be optimal for the image design. Younger has won multiple awards for the Image design and for a long time it was used in both Oakley and Maui Jims which are considered premium products. The Younger NuPolar offering is unparalleled, Xperio doesn't come close. That said if you need a pal that's better suited for an avid reader the Image will be problematic at times. Overall great 1st progressive and great sport PAL.
