Hey all!
I've been noticing an upward trend in elegant readers.
Has anyone taken a step toward this type of offer at your place?
what are some nice brands...all I know of is Scojo.
feedback will be appreciated.
thanks,

Also try Corinne McCormack, and even Vera Bradley (elegant? - well no, but cute and very popular).

Cinzia readers thru Europa.
I always thought EyeBobs (sp?) are kind of fun and cool.

Talking about readers. I work in a OMD office and I frequently have someone looking for a reader that just really excites them. Everything I have is BORING. I have seen EyeBobs but know nothing of the others.
I have the preconceived notion that the clientele looking, being they are elderly and on a "fixed income" (I hate that term. Most all of us are on a fixed income.) Well I assume they really don't want to spend but around $10. And even then they are looking for 3 pair at that price. I have to inject here that the median household income is only around $35 grand a year.
That all being said the question I have is what is the breaking point for most of us? How much is a consumer willing to spend on a pair of readers that they really don't want to start with. No I am not talking Rx readers. Just dime store style.
I would love to get nicer stuff in but most the time when you buy something like readers you cant send them back. Your stuck with them.
Just watch out when WP does Reader...and they will!

Elegant readers? We've been doing them since 1988, we call them "prescription eyewear for reading". A bit more expensive, but they generate MANY referrals. Oh, and we do discount them, usually by throwing in the lenses for free, and making them while they wait...CUSTOM.

Thanks to all for the interesting thoughts (and brands).
The real question behind my inquiry is how does an ECP retain his client base of long time Rx wearers that are now post cataract......
Now they're thrilled to only have to spend $10 on drug store type readers!
What are you doing about this? Or, if you haven't been proactive on this topic, what is your POA??
I like eyeOs readers collection from Reptile Sun. They are hip.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well.
LOL
In my case beside it being post cataract it is also post lasik. The OMD keeps "practicing" getting better and better with cat Sx and Lasik that it takes away from business on the eyeglass side of the office.
I keep expecting medicare to stop helping with glasses after Sx. With the IOL's being put in there really is not much Rx difference most of the time from pre op verses post op. The days of aphaik lenses are over for the most part.
OTC readers are helpful to many, just like aspirin or band-aids.
Having said that, most people will need corrective eyeglasses, and that's what we all do.
I made my mom a beautiful pair of silhouettes in a digital progressive and yet i still see her wearing her drug store readers. I told her that shes giving me a bad name.

Those look like what I would call "just for fun" readers. You would want about 17 pair of those type laying around but you don't want to pay any more then a cup of coffee would cost because if you lost or destroyed them you don't want to bother repairing it. Just pick up something else and keep going. We live in a disposable society , we think disposable so therefore we think cheep but at the same time we desire fancy and pretty and fun and comfortable and readily available.
