Reversing the Brain Drain: Clearly Contacts Recruits from Zappos, Netflix, and Luxottica to Build Team

Vancouver's Clearly Contacts has been on a tear. The online eyewear retailer now sells one of every five contact lenses in the country and has 10% of the domestic eyeglasses market.
Up next is US expansion. According to the Financial Post, CEO Roger Hardy will also be looking south of the border for the talent needed to grow his business: “As you grow, you need talent, but when we started looking we quickly realized there was no one here in Canada with the kind of experience we needed to disrupt the market in the US in the way we have here.”
Hardy has focused on his recruiting efforts on the big players in his space and has been successful to date. In the past six months, Clearly Contacts has recruited Aaron Magness from online shoe retailer Zappos, Peter Lee from Internet subscription service Netflix, and Greg Lechner of optical retailing leader Luxottica Group.
All three executives left strong careers in the United States to make the move to Vancouver. Can Hardy lure even more successful superstars from America to power this Canadian startup?
