Refraction Test in our Vancouver / Robson Store

Our flagship store on Robson St. in Vancouver, BC now offers an Automated Refraction test or “Sight test” ideal for those customers and clients who would like to buy a pair of glasses but are not sure of their current prescription. We met with Claudia, our Operations Manager for all our eye clinics, and she showed us the steps and procedures of this new, convenient test.

I posted this in another thread, but I could have sworn that one of Essilor's spokespersons stated that Essilor is closing down the Coastal retail stores. Why would E role out these optician refractions if they plan to close the retail stores? How do you think ODs feel about E leading the charge with respect to opticians performing refractions? Is this a big deal?

From the web link posted above:

How much does this test cost?
Right now, we charge $20 for the test but if you decide to purchase glasses after the test is done, the cost will be deducted from your purchase so, essentially, it’s free with purchase.

.............right now it does not look like a big deal, but will be sooner than we think. Optometry
evolved from opticianry by having a higher education level, but still has held on to the original level
    of selling Rx eyewear.

Essilor's goal of total domination becomes more and more visible. Their goal is not that opticians should refract, but that an automatized instrument, serviced by any office help can and will do it.

Optometry will be more and more limited to pathological treatments and Opthalmologist's restricted to surgery.

All this can be done, not by a corporation dictating to the world, but simply by pushing unwanted
factors commercially out of the market.

Do not underestimate the power of the internet which can transmit messages and instructions for anything in a fraction of seconds.

It will work in many cases, but not most.

I trust E will continue to trot out their optometrist corporate spokesman for more webinars! Continuing to build goodwill with ECPs and "teaching" us how they are protecting "our industry" are very important ....since without their explanations, I would not understand what they are doing.

It's the biggest, most hypocritical load of lying corporate crap that continues to get spoon fed to the ECP's. More spins than a lazy Susan.

Charles Manson would give them more credibility as their corporate spokesperson.

Canada is a well regulated Country and the perfect ground for them to learn how to deal with regulators and regulations and find out how to curcumvent them the easy way.

And when the regulators not only survive but exist because of E sponsorship support money, you're right; it is the perfect ground for them to continue their trek to squash ECP's.

    Putin must be proud.
