Help Please: Audio Optical Vocabulary Lesson

I just hired a professional voice-over person and I am starting to assemble an audio optical vocabulary lesson.

If I hear the word stigmatism one more time my head is going to explode.

Please post suggestions for terms, words, medications etc. that I should be sure to include.

    Thanks for contributing,
    John

I used to work at a clinic type setting with multiple OD's.One particular OD would repeat the patient's malapropism right back to them. i.e ( Yes Mr. Jones, we are going to check for Gulaculoma.) Very funny man.

Language is a form of communication don't get caught up in the arrogance of thinking a strict dialect is the only dialect appropriate for your ears. You might wake to find no ones talking to you.

    Ah, OptiBoard...

The only place one is guaranteed to get snarky comments and off topic responses.

Funny, I got great and constructive feedback from every other place I posted this question.

Not being snarky I wish you luck and success. It sounds like a great project. I know in my personal life I know people from all walks of life and pronunciation is sometimes geographically influenced.

Dilation, macular degeneration, and ophthalmologist are typically mispronounced.

No apologies I have enjoyed your every mans approach to eyecare education. I like that its a down to earth real solution I would hate to see that core value change. I guess keep up the good work is in order and thank you for your site.

I can't think of anything offhand, but I love the idea. Most of us did a lot of learning via reading rather than other means, and it's easy to mispronounce a word when you've never hear it said aloud properly.

Got to admit I had to look that one up!

I'm not sure how often most opticians will use the term - optic chiasm but I added it to the presentation.

Fresnel, though it is a little less mis-pronounced since the demise of Franel.

    Just to clarify,

Is this audio lesson for all words commonly used in an ophthalmic setting or only commonly mispronounced words?

The Doctor that I worked with in my last job went to get his eyes checked. The nurse at the office told him that he had some Priapism. After an embarrassing moment she realized she meant prism. Not a commonly mispronounced word, but really funny.
