    VSP and visual fields

Does anybody know if vsp requires a visual field be done as part of a complete eye exam? And if so, do they require the one done by the doctors in the exam room or is it one that would be done during pretest?

They only require confrontations in two "meridians". Anything more involved is up to you. No, the technician can perform the test.

The reason that I ask is our doctors allow patients to choose to have the visual field Central 76 screening done for $25 as an optional additional service. I have since been told that a visual field is a required part of the VSP exam. Can we charge for this 76 screening or is this also supposed to be part of the covered exam requirements?

    Here's what I think:

If your docs do a "basic visual field" with confrontations, that will satisfy the exam requirement. Then, if they want to offer a higher level of visual field screening for a fee, as long as the "advance beneficiary notice" hurdle is cleared, it will be OK by VSP.

However, if there is no visual field other than the 76-pt screening, you cannot charge for the automated visual field, as it would default to your basic screening.
