Blue Jumper Guidance please! What is the smartest way to imput and track sales and inventory?

I was thinking a word / excel spread sheet but that seems elementary. I would love to know what a better option would be.
Looking forward to advice, my job depends on it…..xxooo

Get a simple accounting system that has an inventory section and you get the results at your fingertips.

Do you have a POS software that your using? If not you should get one. Also using barcodes is a great way to accurately track inventory and product sales (a specific bar code for each lens/lens option). You can have each employee login to the POS when making a charge to track their specific sales. There are free simple POS systems like Square that use ipdas/iphones, or comprehensive POS but those are more expensive. If you want to go cheap there are also free barcode generators online or cheap barcode fonts that work with Excel. Like Chris said using something like quickbooks can compile all the data. Just make sure you can capture the data accurately and easily.
