    Angry Xerox color laser printer

Not optical related so maybe this will get removed. BUT we have a color laser printer that is 4 months outside of warranty and just took a poop. Xerox said they need to send out a service tech: $300 for first 30min, and $70 for each 15min afterwards PLUS parts and labor! Its cheaper to buy a new one but this one is practically brand new. Still on its original set of toners! Does anyone know about fixing these things? Its a Xerox Phaser 6500N. I've exhausted Google about solutions BTW

Take a look at how much is replacement toner first!
Then it will be easy to decide what to do with this printer

Take a look at a high quality inkjet. I print about 20 pages full color/day and the fist thing I did was look on ebay for cheap cartridges. Then I saw what printers were copatible and then went and bough the best printer in that category. I took it one step further and bought ink to refill the cartridges. So my printing costs for the last 2 years has been about $60.
    Money carefully refunded

You can get that printer new for $300. I certainly wouldn't pay them $300 to come and look at it. I have always liked the laser printers as the toner does not dry out like an inkjet. If you print in color on a regular basis, Inkjets are very good printers.

If you really like the printer and think it breaking is a fluke, buy the same model, and you have backup toner cartridges. If you think it is a common problem and it will happen again, I'd consider a different printer. I have had the best luck with HP Laser Printers. I have not been impressed by Brother or Samsung laser printers.
