    Unpreserved saline.............

We have some contact lens wearers that find that most contact lens solutions, with preservatives, cause mild insertion discomfort, at minimum. We used to have a source of aerosol saline, but supply has been difficult or non-existent.

Canada is just not on the radar of some product manufacturers.

What have you done, in these cases? Suggest stop wearing? Use Clear-Care/Aosept, and decant AM solution to rinse with? Cross-border Bud Runs? Join the NHL?

    I hear your problem, Uncut.

I used to source some aerosol saline online, but I think even that is becoming impossible.

Yes to Clear Care. That's the main answer.

The other answer is daily disposables.

Another unknown but supposedly effective method is to have the patient instill a lubricating drop before insertion that contains hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (otherwise known as HPMC, or "goo") which is supposed to absorb the residual disinfectant.

(That may be why humectant-based lenses get so finicky with solution types, but I digress.)

Most of the people I am helping were drop-outs or near quitters, but were able to tolerate lens wear with unpreserved drops and a system without preservatives. We have the Purilens system available to us, and it's saline but Simply Saline is "simply" not available in C a n a d a(almost broke out in anthem, there). Pity, eh?

My US source dried up, or is non-responsive?

The Aosept/ClearCare system is what most of these wearers are on, but "my momma done told me" never to insert a contact without rinsing it thoroughly with fresh saline, first................so I hesitate the system's suggestion to use the remnants of the overnight storage to "rinse the lens with". Goes against my instinct.
