He no longer remembers the little people.
Now he refers to us as "little people". Sheesh, success sure can change people in a hurry!
Ophthalmic Optician, Society to Advance Opticianry
An update on my life. As you know, I purchased the optical from the MD I worked for, with an overall bigger plan. Last month I merged my office into another independent optician down the street. We are operating 2 offices right now, and will until the first of the year and the lease is up. His office will then move to my location, which is considerably larger, and run one office. The point of this is only one of us (license) has to be in the office, so much more ability to take a LOT more time off.
In light of reading today of Darryl's passing, I am even happier with my decision to do this, that could have been anyone of us. I want to enjoy what I have worked almost 40 years to get, and sit and enjoy more free time. This is working well so far, think I made more then my OD so far this month, so a very happy guy.
The insurance people, I am about 50-50. If I can get them in front of me, I am keeping most, some are just too hard core cheap, and I don't wan't them anyhow. It's a wonderful thing when people call and say I have VSP, and I don't have to deal with it anymore. Plenty of self pay customers left out there, and I will get them with fair prices, and superior service.
UPDATE TIME! What's the GOOD WORD?
OK. I spent most of today cleaning out my office to make room. We are closing one office sooner than we planned, and are consolidating into my office. Business has been good, even without taking ANY insurance, and we have money in the checkbook. We could use another OD, as our routine exams are booked out about 5 weeks, and will address that very soon.
New lease signed, new sign on it's way, getting there.
Work was always fun for me, but now knowing it is going in my pocket is even more enjoyable.
Good for you! Glad to hear it's going well.
I have faith it can be accomplished. I work for an Ophthalmologist who does bill medically for the exam part, however, here in my optical I accept NO insurances. Prices are fair and service is great. I use a local independent lab that helps me keep the cost down to patients. I will bill an insurance as a courtesy for them. So, I can attest that at least on the optical side it can be done. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
