Blue Jumper technological advances, virtually eliminating the swim effect

Increased Distribution Delivers Varilux S Series Lenses to More Independent Practices and Patients

DALLAS – March 28, 2014 – Varilux S SeriesTM lenses revolutionized the ophthalmic lens industry with technological advances, virtually eliminating the swim effect so common in progressive lenses and for the first time allowing patients’ eyes to work better together regardless of prescription differences. To increase accessibility of these premium lenses, Essilor of America is expanding the line of lens materials, widening distribution and increasing availability through major vision care plans.

Now they claim to have eliminated the swim effect, (and admit it), ...................which I called distortion forever, and could not stand it.

Here are a few links and clips that use the term “virtually eliminates swim” or some near variant of the term. Some of these go back 10 years or more. While I have not had a chance to evaluate the new technology, the marketing campaign gets an "F" for originality.

Watch the video and see the lens not distort any light...then note that it's an uncut single vision blank.

All of the people I've spoken to who have tried the Vx S Series have had nothing remarkable to say about it. I haven't heard any poor reviews, just nothing fantastic. I spoke with one person who said it was comparable to an Autograph II. No wearers had mentioned any reduced swim effect.

I started to write something, but I couldn't do it, it wasn't nice. I'll just say nice advertising Chris, I don't think they need any help with marketing though.

    S Series...

There is nothing more hidden in the S Series than a Varilux Physio design with a -0.25 lower ADD.

    Whoops, I said it ;)

I have an Auto 2 fixed 18 and a Var S on my desk- same frame, 20 high. Rx is about -4.50 +2.00 x 90 add +2.25 OU. The Auto 2 gets into the full add quicker; I have to lift my chin to clear J1 with the Var S, especially with tall objects like newspapers. The Var S is a tad smoother, as expected, with more distance peripheral blur, which I can see as a somewhat unpleasant fogginess in the periphery, primarily indoors at night.

FWIW, the Var S has a very complex surface geometry- I can measure a 1.5 D curve variation on the ocular and front surface well above the fitting point from the center to the lens periphery using just a lens clock.

If the lens eliminates Swim, shouldn't they call it "No S" ?
