Equivalent to Essilor lenses

Our optical is switching from Kodak to Varilux lenses and in the past we've use lenses such as Navigator, Precise, Concise, and Unique. Can anyone try to compare these lenses to an equivalent Varilux lens or possible just compare and contrast the different Varilux styles of progressives so we can get a better idea of which lenses to offer?

Besides all being owned by the same parent company anymore....

The Varilux family has a few families of lenses, and come in a variety of styles...

The Comfort (original) - One of the oldest lenses on the market, but still widely used. Soft Design. Have successfully flipped Precise and Comfort wearers to the other with no issues, though the original competitor would have been the Navigator. 18mm min height.

The New Comfort, or the Comfort II - Redesign of the original. Short corridor version available.

The Physio lens - Wider intermediate than Comfort. Design controls the peripheral distortion in the distance {WAVE Technology). Originally released as a 17mm min height, they now have a "short" option for as low as 14mm

Ellipse - Short Corridor 14mm min height. (Think concise)

Ipseo - While similar to the Unique in that it is the higher end free form option, it does require the use of their Eyecode measuring system. It tweaks the lens based upon if the patient uses head movement or eye movement more in tracking. Reduces swim for head movers, enhances magnification for eye movers.

S Series - This is the more recent series. Designs revolve around achieving greater binocular balance by factoring in the rx of both eyes into the lens design and compensation. All 3 versions are digitally processed.
Design is the base level
Fit uses pow measurements for increased "Personalization"
4D uses their proprietary terminal to increase personalization and reduce swim further by factoring eye dominance and tracking patterns.


The New Comfort, Ellipse and Physio are available in the traditionally surfaced, Enhanced (digitally processed traditional molded blanks) and DRx with is the free form option that has the progressive ground in on the back side of a SFSV lens.

Compared to Kodak, which are of course now owned by Essilor, Essilor lenses will be very well received by you patients. Just be weary of higher add patients because the Kodak designs can become very hard and therefore changing to a more advance softer design will need to be advised of key visual differences.
