Question Does anyone have an edger that they just love?

    Hello!
New member here. I am wondering if anyone has an edger (small office use) that they are very happy with and would recommend?
Thanks in advance for any responses!

Small private optical. We send out drill mounts. Just do about 7 jobs daily. Looking for an edger with a small footprint as lab space is extremely limited. We do not need to do glass. Just want a dependable, low maintenance machine with predictable reliability and good quality results.

We've been running a kappa ct essilor edger for over 7 years and it has been a work horse. Still humming along and does a real nice job with a little maintenance here and there.
We do all our drilling on a briot manual drill - we have a HUGE set of carbide drill, end mills etc.. and do some pretty intricate stuff with that.

I've used a lot of edgers, and I regard this one as 'old faithful' - it's pretty quick, very reliable and, as Barry said, good for recuts (I have lots of clumsy patients...) And the footprint isn't too bad either :)

It's also very simple to use.

My 14.5 year old NOP 6e. You don't have to take off a bunch of covers to replace parts, just open er up and get to work. Dry cut edgers "seem" to be more reliable to me. 5-7 minute complete job cycles, what's not to love!

I recently got a coburn excelon edger. I love it. So far there has been zero slippage, drill jobs have come out perfect, and the 3 year warranty is a nice piece of mind. It also has a small footprint. I would highly recommend looking into it.

Avoid the new essilor machines like they are riddled with plague. Nothing but heartaches, proprietary software, locked or DRM riddled files, and maintenance.

Horizon III is my go to machine. Unfortunately it's plastic only, so I have a Weco 440 for glass.

Had a weco for 5 years but switched to Kappa CTD Essilor(does drill and groove) for 7 years & loved it. Now on my 3rd year with a Mr Blue (essilor) am pretty happy with this one but dont use the special bevel too much. Lots of custom drill mounts. My store is a store about the size of yours. If you dont want to do the drill mounts, go Kappa, Gamma or the newer mr. Orange

I just received a WECO 450, and oh em gee. Wowza.

It doesn't have the drill option, and since I only do glass, it didn't matter, but whoa. Mind. Blown.

I already had very good quality coming off of a WECO Zet-90, but the 450 is miles beyond that.

I have the HPE-7000 with the HAB-8000 auto blocker. You can probably get your best deal on it around Vision Expo East/West. I think I got about a 20-25% discount for VEW.

1+ Bought a refurbished unit from another local optical in 2008 and the unit is still running strong/fast and reliable. You can get these used for 8-15K.

My topcon ALE5000 is great, would not trade for it for anything in the world. I think its the most underrated edger in history.

We've had the 4000 for about a year now. We usually cut anywhere from 20-40 jobs a day on it. It's a little on the slow side but it's accurate and we haven't had any issues with it so far. It doesn't have many bells and whistles but it's a good edger for the price, in my opinion.
