    Resources at dispensing table

What resources do you use in your office/at the dispensing table for the patient to use as a reference for distance, intermediate and near? With so many people using their cell phones, I have been using the patient's cell phone to look at the "near point" more and more. I have a nametag, so that is "OK" for intermediate. We have a computer at the dispensing table, but it is not all that convenient for the patient to see. Anything special for distance? Also, what pre-printed materials from vendors do you like? Also, any specific materials for the "order process"? We use Essilor's "build a lens" mat showing no glare, lens materials, PAL, Transitions, and polarization, but any other ideas? Thanks

I usually have the patient get up and look outside the window at cars in the parking lot and the license plates for distance. For near I use the regular old reading card and a magazine. If they have a cell phone handy then I usually have them take a look at it. A wide magazine or newspaper can give a great demonstration for the patients to show where the channel of vision is on a progressive lens. I like to use it and have conversations about getting a second pair of office style lenses or dedicated reading lenses if the patient desires edge to edge mid/near viewing. For intermediate I have them look at a computer we have at the office. Its a good demonstration aid to use a desktop computer and to mention that if their computer is mounted or in an unusual position then it may need some adjusting. Although you should have already determined that before you made the lenses so as to avoid computer use complaints. Anyways, thats my two cents

By far the best AR demo is the famous "butterfly box".Our polarized demo is so effective, we have only had one person decline polarized for sunglass purchase in years.I will post the name of it when I get to work. The polar display is by Vision Ease.

I can't find the Vision Ease polarized display. Could you put a picture of it up?

You can get a combination display too, that has a butterfly box/transitions/polarized demo in it, along with a mirror.

It's a little bit bigger than some things, though. http://vimeo.com/73458285
