Recently, just the local rock station. (which is owned and operated by our local celeb Stephen King) In the past, I brought in my old stereo, and a whole stack of cd's and rocked out to whatever I wanted. Granted that was before they redesigned all the labs to have all those windows and doors to the dispensary. And before mp3 players. And before American Idol. And just before MTV quit playing music videos.

I like your style. When I'm not rocking out I listen to Howard Stern or Opie and Anthony with my earbuds. Nothing like seeing someone's face when they walk through the lab and see me creepily laughing to myself for no apparent reason.

A Pandora Channel that mixes Waylon Jennings, Social Distortion, Slightly Stoopid, and The Killers. It provides a nice variety that can play all day.

I wish I could listen to music in the lab. I'm just doing some part-time edging in a dinky little private practice lab and anything I played would compete with the office music which is pretty mind-numbing. If I hear any stupid Taylor Swift song come on I literally have to get up and leave the dispensary to do something else- I hate that "music" so much. The front desk girls get a kick out of my aversion.

If I had my way? Sharon Jones, Gregory Porter, Otis Redding, Mission to the Sea, HoneyHoney, Thievery Corp, Alabama Shakes, maybe some Jerry Douglas. I'm a music nut- I can get motivated by anything from Bluegrass to Opera.

That's why Ipods with earbuds were invented!

When I worked @ AO in the 70's there was no music allowed because there was nothing everyone could agree upon. When I visited a Hoya lab a while back, almost everyone had headphones on.

I've never liked working with headphones. I rely on the sounds the machines are making. Headphones have me walking in circles.

Not possible. I'm the only lab rat and the only optician in my office. I've got to keep my ears peeled. :)
    Also, This as well:

I need to hear the edger if it is doing something wierd. I think headphones get a person a little too wrapped up in their own world.

Wish I could. But the list would include - fasten seat belt now - The black keys, death from above 1969, the dictators, willie nelson, slint, melt banana, the white stripes and my all time fav squirrelbait. Highly reccomend Spotify on the net. Life-changer. Edgers are noisy - don't deny yourself. Oh, and I got the smashing pumpkins reference.

I'm the only one who bothers to bring in music, so I play pretty much whatever I want. My lab is a tiny room in a private practice, so I can't really play Kool Keith and Porcupine Tree; I try to pick stuff that others wouldn't mind listening to (classic rock, acoustic singer-songwriters) that is a step or five above the Lite Rock station we'd otherwise be likely to listen to. Right now it's my gigantic eclectic Christmas playlist.

Rythmic Hits, Country, Adult Hits, Classical, Rock and Classic Rock, Alternative, Adult Contemporary and of course The Mens Room! Our back office is also our Lab so while the patients on the floor are listening to Bing Crosby and Nate King Cole's Christmas hits were bee-bopping in the back.

Ange, Got any Esquivel? That Christmas album is delightfully wacky.

    No. I'll look it up!

Bruce Cockburn's Christmas album is the greatest ever.

I used to use only one headphone, the one with the play/pause button, so I had one ear available and I could stop it whenever I wanted. We listen to a mix (mine) that tends to be more on the electronic/dance end of the spectrum (David Guetta, LMFAO, Dubsteb) but with a classic rock station based on ZZ Top thrown in. Currently, though, it's all Christmas music. Our lab has a massive window running along it so any customers who look in will sometimes see me playing air guitar to Sharp Dressed Man. Haven't had any complaints yet. :D

Edit: Any complaints that I know of. We've probably had some.
