I guess I need to rethink my position I was not aware that so many people gave it such a high value. Great points were presented and I still don't hold much stock in the value of the testing and cert but at least I know it places you in good company which does have some value.

Here's a different perspective on it. I have been looking at other employment options that are more suited to my formal ed. You may find some of the application questions rather interesting.

Applying for a position with FDIC:
Have you ever mastered a trade? Yes
Have you ever sat on the board of an organization? Yes
Have you ever held a professional license? Yes
Have you ever volunteered at a nonprofit organization? Yes
Have you ever held a professional certification? Yes

I have spoken with managers, directors, and sr. directors of organizations and nearly all of them place value on certification (especially advanced level and licenses) in unrelated fields because it indicates to them commitment and ambition, which they value in future leadership.

Maybe stop embezzling our money?!? Maybe quit raising fees to cover the embezzlement?!? How about answering their emails in a timely fashion?? Maybe this is all just too much to ask!

I would definitely keep it. I have my ABO for MY personal satisfaction. I live in a state that does not require us to be licensed, but I have my certification because it means something to me. If I ever go into another field I will keep it. I worked hard for it and I will keep it.
