Feedback on Santinelli ME-1200 and Weco E.6 Edgers

    Hi everyone.
I have a NO 6ES on its last legs, and we are adding a replacement edger. We want a wet edger that can drill/groove/mill, and has all the bells and whistles. We have 2 NO 7Es as well in our line up. I am with an integrated retailer that successfully brought in free-form, and AR. I feel fortunate to have had this chance to bring our lab to this point. Sellecting a replacement edger is seeming to be a harder choice than the other equipment.

I am looking at the Santinelli 1200 with the 1200 tracer, or the Weco E.6 with the S tracer. The tracer is not so much the dilema, but the edger. I know Santinelli is a fine machine from a fine company. I know neither of them will be faster than my 6E, but I doo not want to sacrafice too much in that department. I am just looking for references on either of these machines, especially the E.6 since I cannot find much on it. About 135 to 150 jobs a day. Looking to bring Chemistrie Clips in house. This edger will handle specials, but we do quite a bit of specials. Any opinions?

Faster is not a word. Santinelli will be much much slower then 6E. Especially on polish and drill. I am talking 2-3 jobs an hour!

You should take a look at the Coburn Exxpert. It has more bevel options than any unit, has milling and can do the Chemistrie. Good pricing and a three year warranty. I do not own one but I saw it at VEW and was very impressed.

I've been down the Coburn road before. I'm not taking that path again. YMMV.

Buy 2 used ME1000 for $30K and you'll have the best of both worlds.

I'd also like feedback on the WECO E6. I saw it in operation at a show last year, and it is impressive.
But seeing one or 2 jobs at a show is not enough....
Does anyone own one of these?

The Weco E6 is the fastest wheeled wet edger available in the US... Santinelli is a great machine, but its a time hog. Tested with -5 Trivex. The NO is technically faster, but by the time you clean up the rough cupped edges by hand it loses out to the Weco overall.

Have you looked at Essilor Instruments Mr Blue or Mr Orange? Features include milling, drilling, step bevel, remote maintenance, software updates for life, chemistries software at no charge, job management with frame library, imbedded connection to VisionWeb, Officemate and Compulink, capable of connecting multiple edgers to one blocker/tracer, easiest auto blocker to use on the market, optical camera in blocker to take picture of demo lenses or patterns, etc.

i hired a part time lab tech who works at the central lab of a large chain in my area. They have a Mr Orange along with nideks and others. Though Mr ORange is capable of drilling, they never use it for that. Just simple edging. They find the drilling to be not reliable enough and generally the machine to be slow...

That is unfortunate that your part time tech has experienced what you state. I found the Mr Orange to be a lot faster than the ME -1200 by up to 50% when it was programmed correctly. The drilling function has never been an issue either. Accurate as the information being entered.

I was wanting a Mr Blue or a Weco, but with eyemad taking a huge chunk of my work away... no point in updating to a newer edger...
