    compensated rx's

I'm on my 6th or 7th compensated rx. They range from 1.60 clear to wrap maui suns.

I CAN'T SEE OUT OF ANY OF THEM.

I haven't done VA's on myself yet, and I'm probably seeing 20/20 ou while looking out of a very select portion of the lenses on each pair, but all in all I'm not impressed.

All were processed using POW measurements. Maybe my brain just likes a good old fashioned cr-39 lens. Not sure. My clearest lenses were plain old simple stock cr-39's with a decent a/r, clear or polarized.

Anyone else experiencing the same thing?

    Potential suspects:

    1. Original Rx lacks optimal astigmatism correction
    2. Undiagnosed esophoria
    3. Undiagnosed exophoria
    2. Undiagnosed eye tracking/synching issues. Q: Are you bothered by 3D movies?

Flipper any pair and see if acuity improves.

rxs usually come in a smudge weak. Like, a -3.62+.60-ish.

not good. try -0.25 over them and see what you find.

Isn't this the power most of the conventional designs are using when designing the molds?

I think I'm just a minus *****. I would wear -4 in my right if I could. It's probably the problem.

add a little plus in front of your new glasses and see how it feels, i have a compensated lens in both of my suns and it took some pretty serious wear time to get used to them. as a fellow minus sl*t i can identify, my left eye will just eat it up!!

Is the PD wide enough? Is there any Base in prism? (There should be.)

Could it just be that your total power at 180 is -4.50, this might be the culprit here. Base curves can be problematic in that power range along with your material choose and how much decentration is there.

Reduce the panto and wrap tilt to zero. Still happy?

There you go. Get a second opinion on the refraction, preferably from an Optometrist.

I compensate all of my own lenses and ask the lab to stay out of my calcs. I am curious what the base curves are and what material. Some higher index materials exacerbate the effects of off axis peripheral aberrations due to base curves being non-optimal. If the design compensates for this (yes even a single vision lens has design parameters) then you can overcome some of these issues. Often times I find that due to closer vertex distances I can get away with a larger range of Rx's in wrap eyewear, but optimally I try to reduce compromise with the base curve a bit, instead of 8 base lenses I would recommend as low as a 6 base or 7 base with an 8 base bevel this way you are threading the needle between cosmetics and visual comfort.

Yes! This is what I do. Put a -6.75 in an Oakley 10 (Progressive), 1.67, on a 6.75 base, and "tilted" the lens bevel apex to reduce the effective wrap from Oakley's 27 degrees to 19 degrees.

    Worked out GREAT!
