Post Cataract Reimbursement and DME Competitive Bidding

Does the DME Competitive Bidding Program have any bearing on post cataract glasses and patient seeking reimbursement?

In our office, we do not bill for post cataract glasses. We have the patient seek reimbursement on their own. We have recently been told that if we make the glasses, the patient can no longer seek and receive reimbursement on their own. We were told that we have to refer them to a Medicare Contract Supplier.

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

The form CMS-1490S is specifically for patient reimbursement but seems to be no longer is accepted with or without an NPI.

Have you read somewhere that it is no longer accepted, or have you found out by submitting?
