Do you particpate in your city/region/community's "Best of the Best" newspaper/magazine ratings and yearly contest? Yay, we do and it's worthwhile, or nah, don't believe in it or need to be in it?

A very large, multi-location practice here offers an eyewear purchase discount for a vote. Kinda defeats the purpose.

Nope...rigged worse than our state lottery. Also, whole lotta smoke and mirrors involved with stealing alla those newspapers at 4:00am. I prefer sleep. Makes me much more profitable.

They did it in one of our markets, and I didn't hear anything about until a week after we won it. The newspaper called to congratulate us, and offer us a "deal" on an advertisement in the announcement edition. I said no because it would look biased if we won and we were the only optical that advertised.

I don't think anyone really cares about those things, and I really doubt that it affected us in either way.

The one year in the last 5 that I didn't get our name in there it ended up being 3 chain stores. It doesn't seem to affect our business levels at all but I'll be damned if I let Hakim, Pearle and LC take the top 3.

It's a big scam. People don't care. More important to build legitimate Likes on our Facebook. That works well. It's legitimate.

When I was running a big optical in Florida, we would win the contest in the Sarasota Herald Tribune....but then, we were their biggest optical advertiser.......
