I had a patient today who presented with blurriness and very a small focal area in his Maui Jims that he's had for about 10 days. We also dispensed clear lenses in a traditional ophthalmic frame with no issues. Same Rx in both (SV +2.50 OU with minimal cyl). In the MJ's He sees markedly better with left than right, but even so he says the clear zone seems very small to him. His PD's are 63.5, and the MJ frame eye was a 65 with a bridge of 14. We double checked the Rx in lenses, verified correct vertical and horizontal pupil alignment, and vertex. Both pairs are poly. He wore both of these for a week, and the suns he wore much of his vacation in Florida...so he has had ample time to assess in full sun. There is a significance difference in center thickness (2.5 vs. 5) due to the size of the MJ frame. He's never had Rx wrap sunsglasses. MJ is awesome at compensating, and it appears that there isn't anything odd with distortion going on. Other than than and the obvious difference in base curve (due to the wrap frame), nothing else in my mind could explain his issues. Ideas?
