The products are all made in China and some might be assembled in Italy.

Your broker is partially right. The FDA will check the goods and when they see lenses in a frame the will block the shipment and order drop ball test's. When it passes you are ok. If you have test results they might accept them or not.

Thanks for Reply Chris, however, I got more queries

Drop Ball Certificate should be with the manufacturer at the time they launch a product and that should be applicale till the time manufacturer brings any changes to the products and go and issue new Drop Ball Certificate

Example, Rayban, RB 3025, which we intend to import into USA, these are very popular and in the market for couple of years
Drop Ball Certificate for this model shall be available with the manufacturer which they may not share with me

Which authority I may approach to get a copy of this certificate and safely Import the goods

These are not demo lenses, they are most probably sunglass lenses............................

The FDA has stepped up enforcement recently, Coastal was shut down for a couple of weeks because they were importing suns for kids that did not pass. Its still probably random batch testing though.

If you can't get a certificate from the manufacturer, you will probably have to have a sample tested by an outside lab, like Colt's.

Curious, is it not easier to buy from Luxottica USA directly. Or am I missing something here?

They're trying to shorten the distribution steps by purchasing direct from Italy and not Lux U.S. hence lowering their costs. However, the additional unforeseen costs of self importing shall erode any savings.

I'm sure Lux has already calculated this in their wholesale selling costs. You need to have some serious volume when importing to make it worthwhile - a few popular models here and there is a waste of time and money. Have the bottle of Advil handy.

I have on occasion had to get a Lux frame from Italy, takes much longer than if that same frame is in stock in the USA. Not sure where you will be saving any time or money. Lux often runs free shipping if you order on their website, which they are doing right now for the month of April.

Luxottica actually has 6 manufacturing plants in Italy, 2 in the United States, 1 in India, 1 new one in Brazil, and 2 in China. http://www.luxottica.com/en/activiti...cus/index.html China could not possibly produce the volume of products of the other 10 plants.

The Atlanta distribution center now has all of the previously classified Italy only product. The only reason anything would come from Italy now is if they happen to be out of stock in Atlanta which is rare.
