    Progressive Height Miscalculations

    Hello

    I have three scenarios:

    1) The Customer has to tilt head up and look through the reading portion of the lens, is the height fitted too low or too high??

    2) The customer has to tilt the head down and look through the reading portion, is the height fitted too low or high?

    3) The customer has to put his glasses on the bottom of the nose bridge to see clearly in the reading portion, are the glasses fitted too high or low?

On a side not if a frame is closer to one eye than the other, how do you correct this.

Ex: Right frame front closer to the eye and the left frame front is away.

Your help would be much appreciated on this.

    1. Too low, or the material being read is too high.
    2. Seg upside down? Reading the floor?
    3. Add took weak.
Bonus: Put frame in alignment and adjust temple bends to proper length to match ears.

The answer to your last question is to adjust the arm that is on the side that is closest to the eye inward, or the arm on the other side outward. It doesn't sound like it would work, but it does.

The 2nd question could either be hes looking under the glasses, in which case he has to tilt his head down meaning either the reading material is too low or the glasses need to be adjusted down or a deeper frame is needed. Just my 2 cents

For the first scenario, the heights are accurate and not fit too low, that's what I thought initially.

    RX

    OD PL
    OS PL

    ADD +1.75

Height 21 mm both eyes, first time progressive wearer.

Claims there is not enough reading area and has to tilt head up and read or place glasses close to the tip of his nose. I have no idea what to do.

Tell him hes supposed to point his nose at what he's trying to read.

Alright Wes I'll advise him to do that. It sounds so simple yet it can be so complicated.

    Thanks

If you fit him right, he'll be fine. and if you didn't, it won't work for him.

Also, on first scenario: maybe the add is too weak.

    RX

    OD PL
    OS PL

    ADD +1.75
AHA! Why does he need progressives at all? A +1.75 pair of readers would be a much better pair of glasses for him.

Always verify Distance Visual Accuity as part of your trouble shooting routine. It will save you a lot of time looking for needles in a haystack, or doing Redos randomly. What is his DVA after being adjusted and the measurments verified after marking up the lens?
