    Christmas Bonus?

    Hi,

It's that time of year again! I always wonder if I'm giving the proper amount for Xmas bonus. I've tried searching for a guide, but it seems to vary enormously depending on the industry.

What is a reasonable amount to give for an admin assistant/ receptionist? frame stylist/ technician?

I'm giving them each around $200. Is that low? high? average?

    Thanks!

Anything is good, but remember that anything you do this year will be expected, plus some from next year.

I also think it depends on how many employees you have.

One weak pay for everyone! But seriously. So much of this is dependant on the financial health of your business. One take - instead of making it an arbitrary $ amount, share with your staff some idea of how well you did in the past year and link that to your bonus. The benefit here is motivational - good years = good bonus. You eliminate the expectation of yearly increaces and tie employee performance and effort to their income. Bonuses are discresionary but associating performance with income is mutually beneficial.

    That seems pretty good.

I've known people that get a ham or a turkey. I've known people who have received $1200. Some people get nothing.

Cash is always the best gift to give employee's at Christmas time. They should feel lucky to get that bonus

You can always give away stale bread like the LC did for a few years! (I'm kidding, it was some italian delicacy thing)

Christmas Bonus, oops, sorry, Holiday Bonus was always a major component of my profit sharing plan. Occuring at the end of the year it was able to reflect an accurate metric on the years profits. Since it is the employees who generate the profits it is proper and just that they receive a great proportion of these profits. In a particularly profitable year the bonus was in the neighborhood of four months wages.

I want my employees and their families to enjoy a high standard of living and would have loved to pay bonuses equal to two or more times annual wages - the more they make the more I make.

There are also some tax considerations that also come into play and I would rather give my money to my employees than to the government.

I don't like to connect "bonuses" with Christmas giving.

A bonus is earned, while I gift is just a gift.

The stupid panettone bread. That thing was terrible. I would have rather had nothing than that stupid thing. It was a slap in the face.
Back to the post, anything you can afford is nice. A weeks pay is usual. Just hand it to them seperately and tell them they are appreciated. That happened to me, once.

Our boss gave us a grab-bag of designer purses....Most of them were Coach or Michael Kors. Mine was a Kate Spade and I LOVE it!
