It's like me saying Hoya makes the best lenses and you say essilor does,we could argue about that all day and in the end most likely we would both stand by our original opinion.

No because Hoya are way better than Essilor, and burke 110 isn't even your real name.

burke110 funny thing is I said ME1200 is the best edger for an optical store which Craig agrees too. The argument came from the claim on ME1200 being better than MEI for high-wraps... Not true... It is as good as MEI but not better. Equipment is always as good as the user. Essilor Accolade id better than Zeiss Individual if I don't know how to fit free form.

I'm looking forward to seeing your comparison. I do actually have a challenge of my own for you, if you like? (Don't worry, I don't mean any more competitions!)
I didn't challenge Craig. He was the one that challenged.

From my favorite movie (in an attempt to lighten the thread) "That sounds like a dare, Harry. It's a double dog dare!!!" Can anyone guess the movie? Dumb and Dumber

I will cut some lenses later and post pictures. I had a discussion with a person who runs 6 machines and they are both amazing. The MEI is now 7 years old and continues to improve while setting the standard for wraps and lab edging but the Nidek has made a huge stride in step beveling finish quality. The MEI is a $250,000 monster that can require a computer engineer to program some jobs while the ME-1200 is $50,000 and can be run by my 12 year old with some training.

The pictures will be of a high-curve with a step bevel that varies by the lens thickness. I just looked and we are out of sample lenses so it may be next week before they are posted.

We got our 3rd MEI about 3 months ago and the exact cost was $467,000. And the ME1200 I talked to Santinelli cost around $86,000. So maybe we are talking about different machines here Craig. I have the invoice for MEI and the quote from Santinelli.

The show special at Expo West was $52,000 for the machine plus blocker/tracer. I am not aware of the new MEI prices as they have expanded the offering. I could buy 9 ME-1200's vs one MEI.
I wish you the best of luck with your edgers.

As I said earlier we might be talking about different versions Craig. As a wholesale lab we need speed and quality together. 3 MEIs cut us over 1,500 pairs of lenses a day. I can't get that from Santinelli.

You forgot to mention that the edges can look like crap off a dry edger. Fast, but they require more hand work to make em look pretty even with the HLP.

Dry for speed, wet for looks.

Consider your mix of work to determine which edger works best. Just wanted to add my 2 cents..

I tested them all at Vision Expo with a stack of -5.00 Trivex finished lenes.

Santinelli makes a great machine, but I put my money on a Weco 580 because it does about 90% of what the Santinelli does, but at 30% less expensive.
Plus the Weco 580 is the fastest wet edger made right now.

Optronicis 7E HLP is faster, but requires hand work to get the edge smooth. The old drill in that sucked (they have upgraded it, so I have not tried the new one).

Only two edgers got the drill holes perfect in a -5.00 Sihloutte, the Weco and Santinelli. The rest were off, either too small, too big, or misplaced in all the others.

My vote would be for the Santinelli, currently have 2, one is 10 years old and the other will be 20 next year. Would kinda like one to die so I can buy a new toy.

The only thing this thread is missing is an old guy claiming he could do it better by hand on a sidewalk, drilled with a toothpick.

You must be special, I got the $86K quote as well for the 1200, but the 1000 was around $55K.
