    PAWS,

I doubt that the average eyewear shopper logs on to Optiboard before he goes out and makes his selection. Even if they did, I doubt that they would care much what a bunch of frame-benders like us had to say about a line of lenses or frames.

Sorry you're # 2, but look on the bright side....you've still got something to look forward to

In our state, Medicare doesn't pay for the refraction part of the exam, period. Only the eye health part of the exam.

I work as an optical modelmaker for 25 years and I know for a fact that brand names have little to do with quality. Some brands bearly bother to look at the product. Thier only concern is the royality checks.
I recall in the early 70s in the UK, when I was a wholesale frame distributor, being involved with the launch of the ill fated Mary Quant line of frames.

Regrettably Ms Quant was given a free hand in the design, the frames looked wonderful in the adverts, on the display panels, in the windows of the optical stores, but on the faces of the patients......... ugghhhhh!
The Hype surrounding this launch was great but at the end of the day they didn't sell

A lot of people who stocked up got left with a lot of frames and a lot of mud on their faces...

The answer is simple, people are snobs, but they won't buy a product that doesn't look good in their eyes.
Thousands of times at the dispensing table I've witnessed the dilemma, do I take the frame that says Made in China for $40, or the designer name (from the same distributor and probably also made in the same factory) for $200

I'm happy to say the designer name wins most times. There are however still a few sensible people who can see through it.

I personally wear a very cheap small frame that is made in China. I didn't choose it because I'm sensible, but because I wanted to try out the then new Panamic and Essilor's claim to fit at 17mm. This was well over 2 years ago.

Because I was so happy with the combination of lenses and frame, it has became my constant eyewear and the frame is still in as new condition.
