To my comrades in optical arms who may be affected by this storm, best of luck and be safe. I hope this thing passes you by with no harm.

Absolutely! My prayers and thoughts are with you all, please hunker down and let us know how you all have faired please!!!!
A man went to an eye specialist to get his eyes tested and asked, "Doctor, will I be able to read after wearing glasses?"
"Yes, of course," said the doctor, "why not!"
"Oh! How nice it would be," said the patient with joy, "I have been illiterate for so long."
Yes, be smart and safe. Listen to the evacuations! As of yesterday, D.C. conference still set to launch Thursday. We are on standby down here not knowing whether we are going or not.
I also hope everyone is safe and sound. Good luck to all!
I came, I saw, I left
Be safe...

Be safe everyone! Wish you the best of luck.
Meanwhile, no mention of delays, postponements, or cancellations on the ABO/NCLE website... (Not even so much as a "we'll keep you posted")

Well I hope you had your supply of spirits before the storm came in.
Here in florida once it is known where the storm is going they shut down the "happy stores" and are not in any hurry to reopen them eather.
Its the way for the powers at be to keep us heathens under control!
Geeze, you guys complain about everything.
Sorry, I must have mis-read the posts. Alexandria is now under a mandatory evacuation order, at least according to the daughter in NoVA. But she's a "sky's falling" kinda kid.

My folks (as well as an aunt and uncle) are about half a mile south of the eye on it's projected path across the headwaters of the Chesapeake. Scary stuff. All are safe so far, but the worst has yet to come...
NYC is in trouble!!!!
No real drama here, unless you count my canoe in the neighbor's tree, and my pond overflowing. (after an entire summer of drought!). Schools are all closed, and I closed 5 of my offices for tomorrow. Generators are gassed up, gas cans are filled, fireplace is going, the bathtub's filled with water, and the pantry's filled. Since I'm more prepared than ever, chances are, we'll keep our power throughout the storm.
I really feel for those that are under water, and/or w/out electricity in the cities. It seems to me that it's much easier to get by in the country. I really hope that the majority of people heeded the evacuation notices and left when they should have.

Everybody thought I was a weirdo when I bought three five gallon gas cans. I guess they didn't notice the water bob, iodine, and three month supply of canned goods and other essentials. I loaded up on wood, too. It never hurts to be prepared.

I am NOT on the ABO or NCLE board, however, the announcement was on the ABO/NCLE website this morning regarding the National Conference. While the ABO/NCLE board meetings were cancelled all day Wednesday and Thursday morning, NAO committee meetings are to be held and you may check with the organizations you are involved with regarding whether you would be meeting. Education begins on Thursday afternoon as scheduled and evening events go on as scheduled.
I'm hoping that I get to see some of you there. Safe travels, all.
Diane
