Makes me thankful for the small earthquake we had last night. Rattled my blinds and that was all. I hope everyone stays safe.

Still pounding here also Judy. News reports show a lot of flooding up your way, stay safe. South of me is trashed, Bonner Bridge closed and parts of rt. 12 washed out and the road gone, again, just a different spot. Looks like it's definitely going to get worse overnight. To those reading and don't know the area, rt. 12 and Bonner bridge connect me to Hatteras Island, to the south. Judy is about 50 miles north of me.
God, I love living at the beach! :-)
Shore Drive McDonald's is up to counter height in water. It's about 3 miles from me. James River Bridge and Mid-Town Tunnel are closed. The Hague in Norfolk was underwater by noon. Pretty sporty!
Hurricanes scare me. Earthquakes too.
All right then, I'm up and about. Lots and lots of flooding on the east side (ocean), some in places I wouldn't normally expect. I tried 3 streets to get to the ocean front, only to hit high standing water. I may try to walk over in a little bit and see whats left of the beach area.
Wondering about the National Opticians Conference this morning. ?????

I didn't take this, but it is Avalon Pier, 1/2 mile from my house.nnno255c2s_620757_458259067553092_540975020_o.jpg
I'm fine, and no damage at home or work that I could see this morning.
High tide here was about 7:30 Am, and about 3 feet higher than normal. Soundside flooding may be a problem when the winds shift. Flooding from what I could see is worse then Irene on the ocean front, dunes are gone in a lot of places.
Just saw a weather update. Off Oregan Inlet, south of me, an offshore buoy recorded waves at 22.6 ft this morning.
Yikes, indeed! The wind has shifted, so all the water that was blown into the basin is finding new places to go. Shore Drive is a mess!
Just saw some pics on another site, and beach road here is impassable for miles. The dune is completely gone in a lot of spots, and the fire department is rescueing people back in the second tier of houses from the ocean. The rain is not hard, just steady and won't quit, enough already! From reports here, most of Hatteras Island is under water, and no way in or out.
AND it's cold!
Here is a link with some pics from yesterday and today.

It just keeps getting better. Now the big road is flooded, and it's just past low tide. For those that don't know the area, we have 2 roads that run parallel to the ocean, one right near the ocean, and one about 300 yards away. The closest road is closed for miles going south, flooded and washed out in spots, but now areas around the other road are flooding and limiting any travel. One nasty storm Lohan!
We're starting to get high winds in NYC now. My house is surrounded by huge 100 year old trees that are swaying like I've never seen before.. The real test will be when the storm hits land it is expected to coincide with high tide..glug, glug.
Upstate NY is just getting the wind - rain is further west and closer to Buffalo - our barometer has bottomed out (never saw THAT before) - we can deal with the rain....but we are surrounded by trees - power could be off for days - we are going to have a glass of wine and a nap. We'll see what happens when we wake up!
Lost and confused in an optical wonderland!
